Alabama Baseball Coaches Association (ALABCA)
2006-2007 Calendar of Events
 

Aug. - Oct. 2006 Fall Raffle.  Youth Leagues, High Schools and Colleges may participate in the fall raffle to raise money for their leagues or programs, the hurricane victims and the ALABCA.  The raffle will conclude on November 11, as the prizes will be drawn for then.
October 7 - 8: AL Community College Sophomore workouts held at AUM in Montgomery.  North soph's participate on Sat., Oct. 7.  South soph's on Sun., Oct. 8.
October 10 - 15: Junior/Community College Fall Classic held at Patterson Field in Montgomery.

Twenty teams participate over the six-day event.  New four-year college umpires get evaluated.

October 18 - 22: Junior/Community College Fall Classic held at Samford University in Birmingham.

Twenty teams participate over the five-day event.  New four-year college umpires get evaluated.

October: Scholarship Committee meets to go through applications and decide who receives $1,500 ALABCA scholarships.  Committee narrows the final candidates down then sends their files to the Scholarship Advisory Committee to choose the ALABCA "Student-Athlete of the Year."
January 18 - 20, 2007 State Coaches Convention - Birmingham, Alabama

State Coaches Convention, Birmingham Marriott Hotel, Highway 280.

Three-hundred high school and college coaches in attendance.

Twenty-five exhibitors showcase their products.

Awards banquet held to honor coaches of the year in high school and colleges.  Coaches recognized for number of years coached and milestone victories.

Hall of Fame Class inducted and Distinguished Service Award Recipient honored.

High School Head Coaches rules certification clinic held.

January 26: Hold a fund raising dinner to support ALABCA programs in Montgomery, AL.

Have one or two major leaguers be the guest speakers.

Have a silent auction of baseball memorabilia and autograph session, then dinner.

RSA Activities Center, located in downtown Montgomery.

January 27: Free youth league players "spring training" clinic in Montgomery, from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
January 31: High School and College Coaches e-mail their schedules and rosters to the ALABCA.  We will post their schedules and rosters on our website for the college coaches and professional scouts to see.
February - the year Hold volunteer youth coaches and players clinics throughout the state.

Offer American Red Cross Sports First Aid Certification to the volunteer youth coaches.

June 11 - 14: Hold seventh annual Underclassman Regional workouts throughout the state. 

Eight workouts in four days.  Five-hundred-seventy-five student-athletes were worked out last June.

Gave each participant a recruiting packet and went over it with them.  Choose one-hundred-fifty player for the Underclassman Weekend of workouts and all-star games, held at Troy University.

June 11 - 14: Give applications to upcoming senior student-athletes at the workouts to apply for $1,500 ALABCA scholarships.
June 28 - July 1: Underclassman Workouts and All-Star Games.  50-60 college coaches and professional scouts have attended the past five years we’ve held this event.  Banquet held on Thursday, June 28 for the 150 players and their parents and the junior college coaches who are chosen to coach the teams.  The student-athletes and their parents are educated on these topics throughout the weekend:  Academic compliance information, how the recruiting process works, shown a baseball specific workout by a professional trainer, an enrichment session from a former major leaguer, and extra baseball instruction when they are not playing games or working out for the college coaches and professional scouts.
